Ellis Shookman is a Professor of German Studies at Dartmouth College, specializing in German literature, literary criticism, and the works of Thomas Mann. His research spans 18th-century German prose, operatic libretti adaptation, and the concept of fictionality in novels.
- Education: B.A. from Yale University (summa cum laude), Ph.D. from Yale University.
He has authored notable publications including Noble Lies, Slant Truths, Necessary Angels (1997) and Thomas Mann's Death in Venice: A Novella and Its Critics (2003). His current work explores Thomas Mann's prismatic concept of physiognomy and German literature adapted as operatic libretti.
