Ellie Williams is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Archaeology at Canterbury Christ Church University within the School of Arts, Humanities, Media and Creative Digital, where she joined in 2016 and has served as Subject Lead, Programme Director, and Level 4 Year Lead.
Her academic credentials include:
- BA in Archaeology from the University of Southampton
- MA in Osteoarchaeology from the University of Southampton
- PhD from the University of Southampton
Specializing in human osteology and zooarchaeology, her research integrates funerary practices, medieval history, monasticism, and foodway analysis with strong public engagement components. Her methodological approach combines skeletal analysis with historical context to reconstruct past societies, particularly in medieval Europe.
She leads significant externally funded projects including the Heritage Lottery Fund's 'Finding Eanswythe' investigating Anglo-Saxon saint Eanswythe's legacy in Folkestone, and collaborates on the British Museum's Amara West Project analyzing zooarchaeological remains from ancient Nubia.
