Dr. Ellie Wigham is a Lecturer in Veterinary Public Health at the University of Glasgow's College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences. She holds a bachelor’s in Experimental Psychology and veterinary degree from the University of Cambridge, with PhD research from the University of Bristol focused on animal welfare training impacts in slaughter industries.
Her research examines animal welfare at slaughter, human-animal interactions in abattoirs, and technological enhancements for welfare monitoring in meat production. Recent publications analyze veterinary education, livestock handling systems, and companion animal cognition.
Dr. Wigham received the Diplomate of the European College of Animal Welfare and Behaviour Medicine certification in 2022. She leads projects on abattoir provision optimization and mobile slaughterhouses, supported by grants including the Humane Slaughter Association funding for cattle welfare technology assessment (2024-2025).
