Professor Ellie Fossey is the Head of Occupational Therapy at Monash University's School of Primary and Allied Health Care, within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. She holds adjunct roles at La Trobe University and the University of Melbourne. Her academic career spans over three decades, with qualifications from Dorset House School of Occupational Therapy (1980), City University London (MSc Health Psychology, 1993), and a PhD from the University of Melbourne (2009).
Her research focuses on mental health, disability, and participation in daily life, emphasizing qualitative and participatory methods. Key areas include recovery-oriented practices, tertiary education support for students with disabilities, and interdisciplinary collaborations. She has led or contributed to 16 funded projects, including initiatives on youth mental health interventions and workforce training.
Professor Fossey has been recognized with awards such as the 2024 Monash Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Award for Equity and two team awards in 2021 for industry education programs. She supervises Honours, Masters, and PhD students, with recent theses addressing topics like employment support for people with disabilities and recovery-oriented care evaluations.
Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education and good health. Active in professional networks like ANZOTMHA and TheMHS, she champions inclusive practices and community involvement in health education. Current projects include co-designing mental health interventions and evaluating recovery care services.
