Ellen Zapata-Webborn is a Senior Research Fellow in Data Science & End Use Energy Demand at the University College London (UCL) Bartlett School of Environment, Energy & Resources. Her work focuses on smart meter data analysis, power system flexibility, and energy demand modeling.

Her research interests span smart meter data, machine learning, energy consumption patterns, and fuel poverty, with a special focus on socio-technical systems and climate action. She leads the development of the longitudinal Smart Energy Research Lab (SERL) dataset for UK researchers.
Her recent publications analyze energy demand shifts during the cost-of-living crisis and COVID-19 lockdowns, validate Energy Performance Certificates, and develop statistical models for household energy use. She previously worked on power system frequency control using thermostatically-controlled loads.
