Ellen Rubenstein is an Associate Professor in the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Oklahoma. She holds a PhD from the University of Illinois and an MLS from Indiana University. Her research focuses on health information access, information behavior patterns, and the evolving role of public libraries in rural communities. Current affiliations include serving as PI on an IMLS-funded grant examining small and rural libraries' health initiatives (2019-2023).
Key research areas include the intersection of libraries with healthcare systems, digital divides in health information access, and innovative programming in underserved areas. Recent work explores makerspaces for older adults and pandemic responses by rural libraries. Teaching responsibilities include courses on information behavior, reference services, and research methods.
Notable projects include analyzing community health ecosystems through library programs, studying international students' health information challenges, and evaluating virtual service adaptations during crises.
