Ellen McWhorter is an Associate Professor of English and Director of the Honors Program at Merrimack College. She holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Illinois. Her research focuses on Twentieth-Century American Literature, Modernist Poetry, and the intersection of gender studies with literary analysis. She currently advises graduate student Khanyisa Manzini M’25, who is pursuing a degree while working in community engagement in South Africa.

Her scholarship explores themes such as homoerotics in modernist drama, feminist critiques of language in poetry, and the evolution of lesbian identity in American women’s writing. McWhorter’s work bridges literary analysis with cultural and historical contexts, emphasizing the role of bodily experience and queer theory in textual interpretation.
