Ellen M. Taylor is a Professor of English at the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA), with affiliations at the Augusta campus, Rockland location, and the Maine State Prison. Her academic roles include teaching creative writing, literature, and courses on memoir and gender studies. She holds a B.A. from Tulane University (1982), an M.A. from the University of New Hampshire (1985), and an Ed.D. in Language, Literacy, and Culture from Harvard University (1997).
Her research focuses on 19th-century writer Celia Thaxter and Maine poets Elizabeth Coatsworth and Kate Barnes. Taylor’s creative work includes poetry collections published by Moon Pie Press and Sheltering Pines Press, alongside her role as chair of the annual Terry Plunkett Maine Poetry Festival. Her courses emphasize writing-intensive practices, blending lecture, discussion, and hands-on exercises.
Publications span literary journals globally, reflecting her engagement with poetry, narrative development, and regional literary traditions. She actively participates in Maine’s literary community through festival leadership and academic outreach.
