University of Michigan-Ann Arborمعرفی
Ellen M. Arruda is a Professor at the University of Michigan's College of Engineering, holding the Tim Manganello / Borg Warner Department Chair of Mechanical Engineering and the Maria Comninou Collegiate Professorship. She has joint appointments in Biomedical Engineering and Macromolecular Science and Engineering.
Education:
- BS (with Honors) in Engineering Science (1985) from Pennsylvania State University
- MS in Engineering Mechanics (1988) from Pennsylvania State University
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering (1992) from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Research Interests: Her work focuses on the mechanical behavior of materials, including elastomers, polymers, composites, and biological tissues. She investigates high-strain-rate responses, nanocomposite design, soft-tissue growth mechanics, tissue engineering, and blast-resistant material development. Her research bridges experimental and analytical approaches, with applications in biomedical and mechanical systems.
Major Funding Sources: Her research has received support from ARO, ONR, DARPA, NIH, NSF, Sandia, Ford, Visteon, Procter & Gamble, 3M, Dow Chemical, GE/NFL/NIST/UnderArmour, Tissue Genesis, NextGen, STEL Technologies, and the Coulter Foundation.
Scientific Awards:
- Member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE)
Labs and Teams: She is affiliated with the GG Brown Laboratory at the University of Michigan, conducting research in mechanical engineering and materials science.
