Ellen Hartigan-O'Connor is a Professor of History and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies at the University of California, Davis. Her work bridges early American history, gender studies, and economic history, focusing on how women navigated colonial and Revolutionary-era economies. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan (2003) and a B.A. from Yale University (1992).
Her research explores the social and cultural dimensions of economic life, including auctions, credit systems, and market values. Major publications include America Under the Hammer (2024) and The Ties that Buy (2009). She co-edited The Oxford Handbook of American Women’s and Gender History (2018) and contributes to initiatives like the Organization of American Historians’ Distinguished Lectureship Program.
