Dr. Ellen Field is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Lakehead University's Orillia campus, where she has served since September 2017 and was awarded tenure in March 2025. She teaches Environmental Education in the Bachelor of Education program and Climate Change Education in the Master of Education program, while co-leading the Accelerate Climate Change Education in Teacher Education project and chairing the Canadian Regional Hub of the MECCE project.

Her research centers on climate change education policy and practice within Canadian K-12 systems, with specialized focus on climate justice frameworks and transformational learning methodologies. She pioneers interest-driven learning approaches through digital media platforms and youth participatory culture initiatives, developing pedagogical models for environmental sustainability education. Her work bridges deep learning theory with connected learning practices while conducting extensive professional development for hundreds of in-service teachers across Canada.

As principal investigator, Dr. Field secured major funding including an ECCC grant (2023-2025) for Accelerating Climate Change Education in Teacher Education, an SSHRC Insight Development Grant (2020-2022) on Educational Policy in Climate Uncertainty, and an SSHRC Connections grant (2021-2022) on Responsive Education. She currently serves as co-investigator on SSHRC Insight (2024-2029) and NSERC PromoScience (2024-2027) projects, actively mentoring graduate students through research opportunities in climate education.
She co-leads the Accelerate Climate Change Education initiative and Lakehead University FarmLab (recipient of January 2025 PromoScience grant), while directing Canada's involvement in the UNESCO-aligned MECCE Partnership project.
