Ellen E. Joyce is an Associate Professor of History at Beloit College, specializing in medieval European history and digital humanities. She holds a Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from the University of Toronto and a Yale undergraduate degree in Humanities.
Research & Teaching: Her work focuses on the medieval church’s cultural influence, visionary experiences in monastic contexts, and pre-print literacy. She integrates digital tools into coursework, developing projects like the vHMML advisory council collaboration and an online transcription platform for archival materials. Courses include medieval manuscripts, Mediterranean history, and digital exhibit creation.
