Dr. Ella Trembizki is a UQ Amplify Research Fellow and Senior Research Officer at the University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research within the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences. Her work focuses on antimicrobial resistance surveillance and molecular diagnostics for sexually transmitted infections, particularly Neisseria gonorrhoeae. She collaborates extensively with national and international research teams on public health initiatives addressing emerging antibiotic resistance threats.
Her primary research interests include epidemiology of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens, molecular diagnostics development for STIs, and public health surveillance systems. Trembizki has pioneered research on gonococcal resistance mechanisms, co-infections with other STIs, and innovative diagnostic approaches including near-infrared spectroscopy. Her work bridges laboratory science with clinical implementation to improve STI management guidelines.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong focus on antimicrobial resistance surveillance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae, with significant contributions to understanding resistance mechanisms, transmission dynamics, and diagnostic development. Her research spans molecular epidemiology, rapid diagnostic technologies, and public health responses to emerging resistance threats, with particular emphasis on Australian populations and global implications.
Dr. Trembizki actively supervises graduate students, including serving as principal advisor for PhD research on gonorrhoea antimicrobial resistance management. She has secured multiple competitive research grants including NHMRC funding for antimicrobial resistance projects and Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine grants for expanded gonorrhoea screening initiatives.
Her research is conducted within the UQ Centre for Clinical Research, which provides extensive laboratory facilities for molecular microbiology and epidemiological studies. The center supports collaborative research through specialized equipment and clinical research infrastructure, enabling Trembizki's work on antimicrobial resistance surveillance and diagnostic development.
