Ella Sargsyan is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Economics and Social Research (IRES) of UCLouvain. She holds a PhD from CERGE-EI (July 2024) and specializes in Development Economics, focusing on household responses to shocks in developing countries. Her work examines social, economic, and political outcomes of crises ranging from economic collapses to natural disasters and violent conflicts.

Her research interests include the interplay between violent conflicts and parental gender preferences, natural disaster memory effects, and the socio-economic impacts of economic crises. Her recent studies highlight how home production mitigates child health risks during crises, the paradoxical effects of conflict violence on son preference, and the relationship between war casualties and democratic engagement. Collaborations include visits to MIT Sloan School of Management (2023) and Columbia University (2022).
