Elke Roeb

Elke Roeb is a Professor of Medicine and head of the gastroenterology department at the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Justus Liebig University Giessen. She serves as coordinator and first author of the national guideline on Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), Chair of the Board of Trustees of the German Liver Foundation, and member of the DGVS advisory board.

Her educational background includes:

Prof. Roeb's research centers on liver pathophysiology and metabolic diseases, investigating molecular mechanisms of chronic inflammation and carcinogenesis in the gastrointestinal tract. Her work examines NAFLD/NASH progression, hepatocyte reprogramming, and dietary impacts on liver metabolism (fat/glucose), addressing the global 25% prevalence of NAFLD linked to obesity and metabolic syndrome.

She contributes to clinical research through past membership in the DFG Senate Commission for fundamental clinical research questions and current service on the Leibniz Association Senate Committee for Evaluation.
