Elizabeth Yost

Elizabeth Yost is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Washington College, where she also serves as Director of Pre-Health Programs and Director of Public Health Minor. Her academic work bridges sociology, gerontology, and health technology, focusing on how technological interventions can improve quality of life for older adults.

Dr. Yost earned her educational credentials from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Birmingham-Southern College:

Dr. Yost's research specializes in technology and health as well as quality of life issues in older adult populations. Her work evaluates how different technologies can be utilized to maintain physical, mental, and emotional health among seniors. She has conducted significant research comparing rural and urban older adult populations regarding technology use, and has explored changing dating norms among older adults in the digital age. Her scholarship demonstrates a consistent focus on digital inclusion and the practical application of technology to address health disparities in aging populations.

Dr. Yost's publication record reveals a strong trajectory in gerontechnology research, with increasing focus on practical implementation of technology training programs for older adults. Her work spans academic publications, book chapters, and a comprehensive book on technology training in continuing care retirement communities. The interdisciplinary nature of her research connects sociology, gerontology, health sciences, and human-computer interaction.

Dr. Yost actively contributes to academic service through her campus roles as Faculty Advisor to Best Buddies and her community service on the University of Maryland Health Center Community Board, Eastern Shore Area Health Education Center Board, and Independent Identity Board. She has also served as a Project Manager for the Kent County Housing Survey with Rebuilding Together Kent County.
