Elizabeth Walsh is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and Associate Dean of the College of Science at the University of Texas at El Paso. Her research focuses on the evolution and ecology of Chihuahuan Desert freshwater invertebrates, utilizing genomic approaches to study adaptation mechanisms in extreme environments.
Research interests span comparative genomics of rotifers, environmental toxicology of pharmaceuticals in aquatic systems, and population genetics of tardigrades. Her work combines field studies with laboratory experiments to understand species resilience in arid landscapes.
Recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on invertebrate biology in desert ecosystems, with methodologies ranging from electron microscopy to wind tunnel experiments. The research provides critical insights into how microinvertebrates survive environmental stressors.
Dr. Walsh leads an active research lab investigating these topics and serves as Associate Director for the Center for Environmental Resource Management.
