Elizabeth W. Boyer is a Professor in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management at The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) and a member of the Institute for Energy and the Environment (IEE). Her research focuses on coupled hydrological, ecological, and biogeochemical processes influencing streamflow and water quality, with emphasis on designing land management strategies to mitigate pollution and conserve surface waters.
Her work spans diverse topics including soil moisture dynamics, climate change impacts, and the effects of wildfires on hydrology. Notable achievements include the 2021 Black Award for Excellence in Research, AAAS Fellowship (2020), and recognition by the American Geophysical Union (2018). She actively collaborates with international researchers and has contributed to projects such as the Critical Zone Collaborative Network.
- Key research themes: Soil moisture variability, river corridor functions, nutrient cycling, and land use impacts.
- Grants: Co-PI on a $2.85M NSF grant for K-12 education (2015).
- Publications: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles, including influential studies on phosphorus loss in US rivers and deep learning applications in hydrology.
