Elizabeth Strom is an Associate Professor in the School of Public Affairs at the University of South Florida. She previously served as Director of USF's Office of Community Engagement and Partnerships (2011–2014) and Graduate Director of the School of Public Affairs (2014–2016). Her academic roles include Associate Professorships at USF and Rutgers University-Newark, as well as a Fulbright Visiting Professorship at Wirschaftsüniversität Wien in 2017.
Her research focuses on urban politics, affordable housing, community development, and tourism's impact on cities. Notable publications include Building the New Berlin (2001) and The Urban Politics Reader (2007). She has conducted policy assessments for local governments and community organizations, including studies in Tampa’s East Side neighborhoods and Dunedin, FL.
Her awards include the 2008 Journal of Urban Affairs Best Article Award and the McCune Dissertation Fellowship (1994–1995). Strom’s work bridges academia and practice, addressing issues such as foreclosure dynamics, brownfield redevelopment, and cultural policy’s role in urban revitalization. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the City University of New York (1996) and prior degrees from MIT and Swarthmore College.
