Elizabeth Squirell

Dr. Elizabeth Squirell is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology at Queen’s University’s Department of Medicine. Her academic journey includes a BSc in Psychology (2014, University of Alberta), an MD (2017, University of Calgary), a Master’s in Clinical Epidemiology, and specialized training in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) at multiple Canadian institutions.

Her research focuses on population-level epidemiology of chronic conditions, particularly IBD’s long-term implications, including women’s health, pregnancy, and preventative care. She actively publishes on IBD management in pregnancy, drug efficacy, and cystic fibrosis liver disease. Her clinical expertise spans IBD, women’s health in gastroenterology, and general internal medicine.

Recent articles highlight her work on IBD medication safety during pregnancy, anti-TNF biosimilar efficacy, and gut microbiome biomarkers. These studies reflect her commitment to improving outcomes for patients with chronic gastrointestinal conditions.
