Dr Elizabeth S. Jeffers is a Lecturer in the Department of Zoology at the University of Oxford, where she co-leads the Technologies in Ecological Monitoring course and serves as Director of Graduate Studies (DGS). She is an Official Fellow in Environmental Change at Reuben College, Oxford, and contributes to editorial boards for Ecology Letters and the Journal of Ecology.
Her research focuses on climate change impacts on plant chemistry, nutrient cycling, and ecological communities. By integrating palaeoecological, dendroecological, and neo-ecological methods, she explores ecosystem dynamics across seasonal to millennial timescales, addressing questions about rewilding, ozone exposure effects, and Arctic greening. Her work bridges empirical data analysis with statistical modeling to uncover feedback mechanisms in ecosystem processes.
Key trends in her recent publications include hyperspectral imaging for plant stress detection, Arctic shrub growth responses to nitrogen limitation, microplastic ecotoxicity, and climate-wine interactions. Her studies emphasize long-term observational gaps and policy implications, such as carbon storage assessment methods for rewilding projects and microplastic pollution management in freshwater systems.
Dr Jeffers leads and contributes to interdisciplinary projects like Palaeo-Trophic Cascades (PACE), Paleo-Progressive Nitrogen Limitation (PNL), and the Local Ecological Footprinting Tool (LEFT). These initiatives integrate ecological monitoring, climate modeling, and evidence-based approaches to assess ecosystem services and resilience.
