Elizabeth Reddy is a Teaching Assistant Professor jointly appointed in the Division of Engineering, Design, and Society and the Geophysics Department at the Colorado School of Mines. Her research focuses on how experts address and communicate about risks related to geohazards, particularly earthquakes, and the social dimensions of environmental data and engineering education. She holds a bachelor’s in Cultural Anthropology from Reed College, a master’s in Social Science from the University of Chicago, and a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California, Irvine.
Her work examines how engineers, scientists, and communities collaborate to mitigate hazards, with funding from the NSF and other organizations. Key themes include earthquake early warning systems in Mexico and the U.S., equitable access to environmental data, and innovative engineering education practices. She has conducted fieldwork in clinics, laboratories, and archives, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to risk reduction.
Reddy’s recent research explores making environmental data accessible for just outcomes and developing curricula that integrate social responsibility into engineering training. She previously worked on an NSF-funded project revolutionizing engineering education at the University of San Diego, designing pedagogical workshops and interdisciplinary modules.
Her grants and collaborations highlight a commitment to bridging technical and social sciences, with a focus on marginalized communities and environmental justice. She advocates for equitable risk communication and the integration of ethical frameworks into engineering practice.
