Elizabeth Pendo is the Joseph J. Simeone Professor of Law at Saint Louis University School of Law, affiliated with the Center for Health Law Studies and the William C. Wefel Center for Employment Law. She holds a B.A. (Honors) from UCLA and a J.D. from UC Berkeley School of Law, with prior experience as a judicial clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and in legal practice at MetLife in New York.
Her research focuses on disability law, bioethics, and health policy, using a disability justice framework to address systemic inequities. Key areas include Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, healthcare access for disadvantaged groups, and insurance equity. She co-authored a landmark 2020 Healthy People 2020 report and collaborates on projects funded by the Greenwall Foundation and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
- Awards: Recognized for leadership and social justice advocacy, including the YWCA Leadership Award and first recipient of the SGA Diversity Excellence Award.
- Service: Chair of Florida Managed Care Ombudsman Committee, community partnerships through service-learning projects, and roles in the American Law Institute and ABA Commission on Disability Rights.
Her publications span over 40 articles in journals like Health Affairs, NEJM, and leading casebooks, including Health Law: Cases, Materials and Problems. Her work critiques inaccessible medical equipment and explores ADA applications during the pandemic.
