Elizabeth Peel is a Professor of Communication and Social Interaction at Loughborough University, UK. She holds a PhD from Loughborough University (2002), BA from Nottingham University, and MSc from Keele University. Her research focuses on critical social and health psychology, with specialties in dementia studies, LGBTQ+ psychology, gender diversity in sport, and human-animal relations. She has led major projects such as the ESRC-funded Future of Legal Gender (FLaG) study (2018–2022) and the British Academy-funded Dementia Talking project.
Key roles include Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for the Doctoral College (2018–2022) and Acting Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (2023–2024). Awards include the APA Distinguished Book Award (2007) and BPS Research Prize (2012). She edits the Routledge Gender and Sexualities in Psychology series and chairs the BPS Psychology of Sexualities Section (2014–2017). Her work bridges qualitative methodologies and critical theory, addressing topics like legal gender reform, aging sexualities, and palliative care communication.
Recent publications include contributions to Qualitative Research in Psychology on human-animal relations and co-edited volumes such as Ageing and Sexualities (2016) and Gender Diversity and Sport (2022). She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects like the ESRC-funded identity work in palliative care PhD studentship.
