Elizabeth O'Neill is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy & Ethics at Eindhoven University of Technology with joint appointments in the Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences department and EAISI Foundational. Her research spans metaethics, epistemology, applied ethics, and philosophy of biology, with current focus on ethical implications of AI and data science.
She completed her PhD in History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh (2015) after undergraduate studies in history and biology at Brown University. Between 2018-2019, she was a research fellow at Cornell Tech's Digital Life Initiative. Her work examines how technological innovations reshape moral landscapes, particularly through concepts like moral revolutions and contextual integrity.
Research explores ethical dimensions of emerging technologies, including the design of artificial ethics assistants, moral implications of digital recording, and frameworks for evaluating socially disruptive technologies. Publications demonstrate consistent focus on bridging philosophical theory with practical tech ethics, particularly in AI governance. Received the Veni Award for 'The Artificial Ethicists' project (2018) and contributes to major initiatives like 'Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies'.
