Elizabeth Nilsen is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Waterloo, affiliated with the Cognitive Development Lab and the UW Centre for Mental Health Research and Treatment. She holds degrees from Victoria (BA), Acadia (MSc), and Calgary (PhD). Her research focuses on socio-communicative development, particularly how children, adolescents, and adults navigate interactions through perspective-taking, online communication, and temperament influences. She emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, including projects with Computer Science on social robots.

Research interests span ADHD-related communication challenges, prosocial behavior development, and the role of executive functioning in communication.
