Elizabeth Meyer-Bernstein serves as the Dean of the Honors College and interim Dean of the School of the Arts at the College of Charleston. She is concurrently an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology within the School of Sciences and Mathematics, where she has made significant contributions to neuroscience education and research since 2003. Her leadership has secured over $2.9 million in external funding for student success initiatives.

Research Interests
Meyer-Bernstein's primary research focuses on circadian rhythms and the molecular mechanisms underlying rhythmic behavior in organisms, with current work on sea anemones. Her expertise spans neurobiology, physiology, and molecular biology. She has also expanded into Medical Humanities, mentoring students in the intersection of medicine and the humanities. Her interdisciplinary approach fosters innovative educational programs and research opportunities for undergraduates.

Advising and Grants
Meyer-Bernstein has mentored numerous undergraduate students in her laboratory and through the Honors College. She has been the principal investigator for major grants, including the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Undergraduate Science Education Program (2008-2017) and the Colonial Academic Alliance Innovative/Collaborative Grant (2017-2020), securing over $2.9 million to support student research and creative activities. Her efforts have established partnerships with the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina, expanding research opportunities for students.
Labs and Teams
As the founding director of the Neuroscience Program, Meyer-Bernstein built a robust interdisciplinary minor that has become one of the largest in the School of Sciences and Mathematics. She oversees the "Medical Humanities" mentoring cohort and leads initiatives that connect students with research institutions. Her leadership in the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities has fostered a vibrant community of student scholars.
