Elizabeth Medina

Elizabeth Medina serves as an Instructor in the Science Department at Front Range Community College and teaches Microbiology at Metropolitan State University of Denver for healthcare career students. She actively participates in the SEA-PHAGES program, integrating bacteriophage discovery into microbiology laboratory curricula.

Dr. Medina's research expertise centers on bacteriophage and molecular microbiology, recently revitalized through SEA-PHAGES involvement. She teaches healthcare-focused microbiology by combining traditional techniques (Gram staining, biochemical tests) with hands-on phage isolation using Arthrobacter globiformis hosts. Her courses feature structured lab sessions totaling 8 hours weekly across three meetings, including dedicated open labs.

For Fall 2025, she leads two Bio2104 sections at Front Range Community College totaling 39 students (primarily freshmen), collaborating with co-instructor Darlynn Johnson on curriculum delivery for future healthcare professionals.
