Elizabeth Kiilu

Dr. Elizabeth Kiilu is an Assistant Professor at the University of Bradford's School of Nursing, Public Health and Healthcare Leadership, where she leads modules in undergraduate/postgraduate public health programs and supervises postgraduate students. Previously, she served as a Lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in the School of Public Health. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Health (JKUAT), an MPH from the University of South Wales (UK), and an M.Sc. in Health Systems Management from Kenya Methodist University.

Research Interests: Dr. Kiilu focuses on maternal health, migrant/refugee health inequalities, health disparities among minority populations, HIV/AIDS research, and physical inactivity in children. Her work bridges clinical practice, public health policy, and community-based interventions.

Grants & Projects:

• Principal Investigator: £150,000 UKRI/MRC grant (2025) co-created digital tools to reduce vaccine hesitancy among ethnic minority women and children, collaborating with the University of Leeds, Bradford Council, and the Bradford Institute for Health Research (BIHR).
• Co-Investigator: EUR 741,851 EU/CDC grant (ongoing) training epidemiology/biostatistics fellows from 8 sub-Saharan African countries to strengthen outbreak response capacities.

Advising & Grants: Supervises postgraduate students and leads multidisciplinary teams on vaccine hesitancy and disease outbreak preparedness. Her projects emphasize co-creation with communities and cross-sector collaborations.

Labs/Teams: Active in Bradford's Public Health Research Group and co-leads the Vaccine Hesitancy Reduction Initiative (VHRI) with BIHR.
