Elizabeth Johnston is a Professor of Psychology at Sarah Lawrence College since 1992. Her research focuses on human perception of three-dimensional shape, binocular vision, and depth perception from motion. She has contributed to studies on shape perception from stereopsis, sensorimotor integration, and cross-modal depth information processing. Johnston teaches interdisciplinary courses bridging psychology, neuroscience, and visual arts, such as Art and Visual Perception and Psychocinematics: Film, Psychology, and Neuroscience.
Her work explores the intersection of cognitive psychology and sensory systems, with an emphasis on how brains integrate multisensory data to construct spatial awareness. Johnston's academic contributions align with her role in the MA Child Development Program, where she applies perceptual research to developmental contexts.
She has been recognized with the Margot C. Bogert Distinguished Service Chair, highlighting her institutional impact. Johnston's educational background includes an MA from St. Andrew’s University and a DPhil from Oxford University.
