Elizabeth Gregory is a Professor of English and the Taylor Professor of Gender & Sexuality Studies at the University of Houston (UH), where she directs the Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies Program and the Institute for Research on Women, Gender & Sexuality (IRWGS). Her work bridges literary analysis and gender studies, with a focus on Marianne Moore’s poetry, later motherhood, and cultural dynamics of democracy and celebrity.
Gregory’s research explores intersections of gender, race, and celebrity in modernist poetry, particularly through her book Apparition of Splendor (2021), which redefines Moore’s late work as populist political engagement. She also investigates socio-economic impacts of delayed motherhood through Ready (2012) and ongoing data projects with Houston/Harris County demographics. Her recent

- 2022 digital edition of Moore’s notebooks

Gregory’s leadership in establishing the Carey C. Shuart Women's Archive and organizing public initiatives like the Table Talk Luncheon demonstrates her commitment to applied gender research. She holds a Ph.D. from Yale University and has been instrumental in expanding UH’s gender studies infrastructure since 1994.
