Dr. Elizabeth DeMarrais is an Associate Professor in Archaeology at the University of Cambridge, specializing in material culture and archaeological theory. Her work focuses on pre-Hispanic Andean societies, cultural complexity, and sociopolitical organization, with a particular interest in the Inka Empire and its peripheries.
Her research spans South American archaeology, exploring themes such as symbolic power, iconography, and the materialization of culture. She has contributed extensively to academic journals and edited volumes, providing critical analyses of monumental architecture, heritage, and colonial dynamics in the Andes.
