Elizabeth Culatta is an Associate Professor at Mercer University's Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, with a joint appointment in the Department of Social Sciences and the School of Public Health's Institute for Public and Preventive Health. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from the University of Georgia (2018 and 2012, respectively).
Her research focuses on identity processes and health, particularly during the transition to adulthood, addressing topics such as social determinants of health, mental health disparities, and sexual victimization. Teaching interests include the Sociology of Health Care, Gender and Work, and Sociological Theory. She received the 2023 Pamplin Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Culatta actively serves on university committees, including the Pamplin Faculty Council, Undergraduate Research and Fine Arts Planning Committee, and Curriculum Committee (serving as Chair). Her scholarship spans over a decade, with recent work examining microaggressions in academia, unmet expectations during adulthood, and organizational risks for sexual harassment.
Her courses include Introduction to Sociology, Sociology of Health Care, and Honors seminars. Research areas also encompass gender dynamics in organizational justice and the intersectional impacts of race, gender, and sexual orientation on mental health.
