Elizabeth Chloe Romanis is an Associate Professor of Biolaw at Durham Law School, Durham University, and a Fellow-in-Residence at Harvard University's Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Ethics and Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology and Bioethics (2022-2023). She serves as an adjunct researcher in the University of Zurich's Human Reproduction Reloaded program and co-Editor-in-Chief of Medical Law International. Romanis holds a PhD in Bioethics and Medical Jurisprudence from the University of Manchester (2020), where she also earned an LLB and LLM in Healthcare Law and Ethics.

Romanis specializes in healthcare law and bioethics, focusing on reproduction, abortion, gestation, and birth. Her work examines artificial womb technology, telemedical abortion, uterus transplantation, and legal implications of novel reproductive practices. She has published in Medical Law Review, Journal of Law and the Biosciences, and Journal of Medical Ethics, with a co-authored book Early Medical Abortion, Equality of Access, and the Telemedical Imperative (Oxford University Press, 2021) and a monograph Biotechnology, Gestation, and the Law (Oxford University Press, 2025).
Her recent publications highlight trends in artificial womb technology ethics, abortion law reform, and reproductive justice. Romanis’s work bridges feminist legal studies, maternal rights, and biotechnological regulation, emphasizing equality, autonomy, and legal modernization.
