Elizabeth Brestan-Knight

Elizabeth Brestan-Knight is a licensed clinical psychologist and Professor at Auburn University’s College of Liberal Arts, where she holds the prestigious Alma Holladay Endowed Professorship. With a PhD in Clinical and Health Psychology from the University of Florida and a BA from Emory University, she has dedicated her career to advancing Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) through clinical practice, research, and training. Her work spans 14 years of direct PCIT service at Auburn Psychological Services Center, where she trains therapists and supervises students.

Her research focuses on clinical applications of PCIT, with emphasis on:

• Dissemination strategies across 11 states and 3 countries
• Sociocultural adaptations for diverse populations

Recent publications highlight her expertise in PCIT adaptation for ASD populations, selective mutism, and global implementation. She has received recognition for both her research contributions and teaching excellence, directing the Parent-Child Research Lab which trains graduate students in clinical research methods and provides real-world mental health services. Her work integrates behavioral coding systems with digital technology to enhance therapeutic outcomes.
