Dr. Knox's creative practice centers on contemporary composition utilizing both traditional and graphic notation systems, with significant output in live electronic performance and fixed media works. Her conducting expertise spans wind ensembles and orchestras, demonstrated through guest engagements at institutions like Butler University and leadership of the Boone County Youth Orchestra for eight years. As an educator, she integrates her dual expertise in composition and conducting across music theory, orchestration, and instrumental literature courses while maintaining 25 years of private instruction experience across multiple instruments.
Her advising approach combines rigorous technical training with creative exploration, particularly evident in her applied composition lessons and electronic music mentorship. Though not leading a formal research lab, Dr. Knox cultivates creative opportunities through performance commissions, festival submissions, and collaborative projects with performers internationally. Her church music directorship since 2013 further demonstrates applied musicianship in community settings.
