Eliza Gardiner is affiliated with Vancouver Island University (VIU) as a Tutor in the Theatre Department. With a background in theatre education and practice, she has contributed to arts-based teaching and participatory theatre methodologies. Her professional roles include General Manager of Nanaimo’s TheatreOne and chairing VIUFA’s Human Rights and International Solidarity Committee.
- BFA in Film from York University
- MA in Drama from University of Toronto
Her research focuses on the intersection of theatre and education, particularly Theatre of the Oppressed techniques and Indigenous theatre’s transformative power. She presented on 'The Power of Indigenous Theatre' at the Arts and Humanities Colloquium.
Eliza combines academic work with practical theatre experience, including owning Red Room Studio children’s theatre company and collaborating with Shambhala Music Festival.
