Eliza Buhrer is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences at Colorado School of Mines. With a B.A. in Religious Studies from Reed College and an interdisciplinary M.A. and Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from Cornell University, she brings expertise in history, philosophy, and cultural studies to her teaching and research.
- Specializes in the intersection of medicine, law, and disability in premodern Europe
- Focuses on the early histories of mental disorder, intellectual disability, and poverty
- Editor of the Bloomsbury Cultural History of Poverty in the Middle Ages
- Currently explores long-term health burdens of historical pandemics
She co-chairs the HASS DI&A Committee and mentors students in the Visual & Performing Arts Themed Learning Community.
