Elise Paschen

Elise Paschen is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Writing Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she has taught since 1999. She holds a BA from Harvard University (1982) and MPhil/DPhil degrees from Oxford University (1984/1988). Her work bridges contemporary poetry, experimental forms, and Native American cultural advocacy.

• Research Focus: Poetic hybrids, collage, docupoetics, ecopoetics, erasure, and Indigenous literature.

• Awards: Rupert Costo Chair Medal, Nicholas Roerich Poetry Prize, Frances Allen Fellowship, Lloyd McKim Garrison Medal.

As co-founder of the Poetry in Motion program and former Executive Director of the Poetry Society of America, Paschen integrates public art and literary education. Her courses emphasize innovation and interdisciplinary approaches.
