معرفی
Elise Helena Armulik (born January 24, 2000) is a Junior Research Fellow in Molecular Immunology at the University of Tartu's Institute of Biomedicine and Translational Medicine, Faculty of Medicine. She simultaneously pursues doctoral studies in Medicine while contributing to cutting-edge immunological research focused on thymus function and T cell development.
Education:
- Doctoral Studies in Medicine, University of Tartu (2024–present)
- MSc in Biomedical Science, cum laude (2022–2024), University of Tartu
- BSc in Biology and Biodiversity Conservation, cum laude (2019–2022), University of Tartu
- Hugo Treffner Gymnasium (2016–2019)
Her research centers on molecular mechanisms of thymocyte development, particularly examining how toll-like receptor agonists and type I interferons influence thymus function. She investigates age-related microenvironmental changes and inflammatory mediators in thymic tissue, with implications for understanding autoimmune disorders and immune system aging. Her work bridges basic immunological principles with translational applications in biomedicine.
Her publication record demonstrates a focused trajectory in thymus immunology, particularly exploring the relationship between Aire-dependent signaling pathways and autoantibody development. Her research shows strong methodological expertise in fetal thymus organ culture techniques and molecular analysis of immune cell populations.
Scientific Awards:
- Olev & Talvi Maimets scholarship holder (2024)
- Best Student Oral Presentation Award at Faculty of Medicine Conference (2024)
- Multiple prestigious scholarship awards from 2019–2024
- National competition prizes for student research
As a doctoral candidate supervised by Martti Laan and Pärt Peterson, she contributes to significant research grants including 'Age-Related Changes in T Cells' (€540,000, Estonian Research Council) and 'Building Excellence in Systems Immunology and Healthy Aging Research' (€996,125, European Commission). She actively participates in academic governance as a member of the University of Tartu Biomedical Curriculum Program Committee and serves on the Student Council at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology.
She is an active member of the Estonian Society of Immunology and Allergology and regularly presents her work at international conferences including the European Congress of Immunology and specialized thymus biology meetings. Her laboratory work focuses on molecular immunology techniques to investigate thymocyte development under various inflammatory conditions.
