Elise Ferree serves as a Professorial Lecturer of Biology within the Keck Science Department at Claremont Colleges, jointly administered by Scripps and Pitzer Colleges in Claremont, California. Her academic home spans multiple institutions within the Claremont Consortium, with primary affiliations in biological sciences.
Her research focuses on behavioral ecology using birds and spiders as model organisms, with particular emphasis on breeding and social behaviors. Current investigations examine winter social behavior of migratory white-crowned sparrows at the Bernard Field Station, while maintaining ongoing analysis of historical data from avian and arachnid studies. Additional scholarly interests include nutrition science, public health policy, women's health initiatives, sustainability practices, and urban ecology of both flora and fauna.

Her educational background includes a PhD from the University of California Santa Cruz (2007), Master's degree from Wake Forest University (2001), and Bachelor's degree from The College of William and Mary (1999), followed by postdoctoral work at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
