Elise Bell is a Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics at UCLA. Her research focuses on bilingualism's influence on phonetic and phonological properties of speech, particularly in Welsh-Spanish and Scottish Gaelic contexts. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Arizona (2018), an MA from the same institution (2015), and a BA in Anthropology and Linguistics from UC Santa Barbara (2012).
Her work integrates experimental, acoustic, and computational methods to explore minority language maintenance. Notable projects include investigating Welsh vowel production/perception in Argentina, funded by NSF grants, and studying lenition in Scottish Gaelic. She has taught courses in linguistics at UCLA and UT El Paso, covering introductory topics and advanced phonology.
Her publications span bilingual speech patterns, phonological processes in Celtic languages, and computational linguistics applications. Ongoing research includes Argentinean Welsh dialect studies and the role of morphology in stop voicing perception.
