Elisabeth Volk is a research assistant in German linguistics and sign language research at the University of Göttingen, affiliated with the Department of German Philology. She is pursuing her doctorate under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Markus Steinbach, Prof. Dr. Nivedita Mani, and Dr. Annika Herrmann, focusing on the grammaticalization of gestures in sign languages.

Her research centers on the interaction between manual and non-manual components in sign languages, particularly at the syntax-prosody interface and discourse level. She explores how gestures contribute to language expression and integrate into grammatical structures.
Elisabeth's work bridges theoretical and experimental approaches in sign language linguistics, emphasizing the role of non-manual components across linguistic levels. She collaborates with Sina Jahnke on syntactic phenomena like w-movement in German Sign Language.
