Elisabeth Mayweg

Elisabeth Mayweg holds the Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF) Professorship of Digital Knowledge Management in Higher Education at the Institute of Educational Science of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin since October 2018. She previously served as an interim professor at Leibniz-Universität Hannover, conducted postdoctoral research at Freie Universität Berlin, and managed the Centre for Teaching in Higher Education at Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. She also completed a DFG research fellowship at Columbia University Teachers College.

Her research focuses on digitalization in teaching-learning contexts, with particular emphasis on computer-supported collaborative learning and argumentation, online knowledge communication, digital competencies including information literacy and critical thinking, and digital innovation in higher education. Her methodological approach is primarily empirical, combining quantitative and qualitative methods with experimental and quasi-experimental designs.

Professor Mayweg's publications reveal a strong focus on how students and teachers engage with digital information, particularly regarding critical evaluation of online sources, collaborative argumentation, and the development of cultural literacy through digital resources. Her work increasingly addresses pandemic-related educational challenges, especially how students collaboratively process information about crises like COVID-19.
