Elisabeth Kargl serves as Senior Lecturer and current Director of the Department of Germanic Studies at University of Nantes' Faculty of Languages, Literature, and Human Sciences. A full member of France's National Council of Universities (CNU Section 12) since 2025, she also directs the trinational APC Master accredited by UFA and the German MCCI Master's program while managing Erasmus exchanges with four German-speaking institutions.
Her educational background spans dual doctorate from Sorbonne-Nouvelle and University of Vienna (2006) on Elfriede Jelinek's theater translation, with advanced degrees from University of Nantes and University of Vienna. Professional development includes CRCT training in film subtitling (2017) and ongoing participation in European Creative seminars.
Kargl's research centers on translation studies, cultural transfers, and German-Austrian literature with strong interdisciplinary connections to film studies and urban cultural spaces. Her work demonstrates consistent focus on biographical fiction, reception studies, and the intersection of literature with visual media, particularly through subtitling practices and cinematic adaptation.
Her awards include Nantes University's RIPEC C3 educational investment bonus (2022-2025) and Austria's Würdigungspreis excellence award (1996). As editorial board member for Germanica and Austriaca journals, she contributes to scholarly discourse in Germanophone studies.
Kargl supervises Master's theses while leading research within EA 1162 CRINI laboratory. Her leadership extends to coordinating international networks including the Elfriede Jelinek Research Center (Vienna) and SOFT (French Society of Translation Studies), with active participation in European cultural projects like Univerciné's subtitling workshops.
Her laboratory work focuses on practical translation applications through film subtitling initiatives and cultural mediation projects, maintaining strong connections with professional cultural sectors through workshops featuring industry practitioners.
