Elisabeth Haefs is a doctoral researcher in the City Scripts graduate research group (UA Ruhr Alliance) affiliated with the University of Duisburg-Essen. She holds a B.A. from the University of Siegen and an M.A. in Anglophone Studies and Literature and Media Practice from Duisburg-Essen (2018). Her research focuses on narrative structures in scientific texts and the intersections of Science/Literature, Urban Studies, and transatlantic urban transformation.
Her dissertation, Scripts of Community Gardening: The Inclusive Green City Plot in Portland (Oregon) and Essen, examines how narratives of urban greening strategies influence social inclusion through comparative analysis of Portland, Oregon and Essen (European Green Capital). This work critiques assumptions about community-building through gardening and explores the narrative frameworks driving such urban initiatives.
In 2021, she served as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Oregon in Portland. Her work contributes to transatlantic dialogues on postindustrial urban futures, blending literary analysis with urban studies methodologies.
