Elisabeth Friis is a Senior Lecturer in Comparative Literature at Lund University's Centre for Languages and Literature. She has been affiliated with Lund University since 2011, having previously worked at the University of Copenhagen. Her academic position is firmly established within the Department of Comparative Literature where she teaches courses including LIVA05 (Contemporary Literature), LIVA09 (The Venues of Poetry), and LIVA27 (New Perspectives on European Classics).
Her research interests span poetic forms from antiquity to the present day, with particular expertise in German, French, English, and ancient Greek literature, as well as contemporary Danish literature. Her scholarly fingerprint reveals significant contributions to Poetry, Labour, Seriality, Enunciation, Poetic Practice, Sensibility, and Poetics. She has participated in the Pufendorf research group 'Exploring the Animal Turn' and is currently engaged with developments in ecopoetics and posthumanist theories.
Her recent publication activity shows a strong focus on contemporary poetry, feminist theory, and the intersection of literary form with social and political concerns. Her 2025-2023 publications demonstrate consistent engagement with Virginia Woolf studies, feminist thought (including Kristeva), and the political dimensions of poetic practice. Her work appears across diverse formats including peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, newspaper contributions, and specialist publications.
Her research projects include 'Women's rooms. Material worlds and literary form in Fredrika Bremer's novels' (ongoing since 2018), 'Flerspråkighet i samtida nordisk litteratur' (2018-2020), and 'The Animal Turn - Theme, Pufendorf IAS' (2013-2014). She serves as co-editor of the Danish magazine Kritik and has supervised doctoral work.
Based at SOL:H230a in Helgonabacken 12, Lund, she maintains an active research profile with 57 documented research outputs and continues to contribute significantly to literary scholarship through her teaching, research, and editorial work.
