Elisabet Breivik

Elisabet Breivik serves as a Doctoral Research Fellow at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø, actively contributing to palliative care research through the Courage2B initiative and its Liv og Livsmot subgroup. Her work addresses critical gaps in rural healthcare delivery for terminal cancer patients.

Her educational foundation includes a Master of Science in Nursing and specialized further education from ABIKO, equipping her for interdisciplinary health research in Arctic contexts.

Dr. Breivik's research program centers on the psychosocial dynamics of family caregivers in remote palliative settings, examining burden perception, decision-making challenges, and systemic barriers to end-of-life care. She investigates how healthcare reforms impact nursing morale while developing culturally responsive support frameworks for isolated communities, with particular attention to gender dynamics and resource limitations in circumpolar regions.

Publication analysis reveals a methodological evolution from policy-focused nursing studies (2012) toward contemporary mixed-methods investigations of rural caregiver experiences (2024-2025). Her current work employs meta-ethnography to synthesize qualitative evidence on caregiver ambivalence, highlighting tensions between familial duty and personal sustainability in geographically dispersed populations.

She leads the active PhD project Home-based palliative cancer care at the end of life in rural areas (MH vest L.11.312), collaborating with regional health authorities to translate research into practical home-care protocols for northern Norway's dispersed communities.
