Elisa Mantelli

Prof. Elisa Mantelli is a Professor of Glaciology at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München. She holds a courtesy appointment at the University of Tasmania (Institute for Marine and Antarctic Sciences) and serves as a Guest Scientist at the Alfred Wegener Institute’s Glaciology Section in Bremerhaven. Her research focuses on glaciology, geophysical fluid dynamics, and climate systems, with expertise spanning polar environments and environmental engineering.

• Prior Positions: Assistant Professor at University of Tasmania (2021–2023), Postdoctoral Fellow at Princeton University (2019–2021), Stanford University (2017–2019), and University of British Columbia (2016).

Her research group at LMU explores glacier dynamics, climate interactions, and cryospheric processes. Current opportunities include ERC-funded projects like PHAST, seeking postdocs and PhD candidates in theoretical/numerical glaciology and glacier geophysics. She collaborates across disciplines, combining fieldwork, modeling, and observational data to address climate change impacts on ice sheets and glaciers.
