Elisa Guazzelli

Dr. Elisa Guazzelli is a tenured-track researcher at the University of Pisa's Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry. She holds affiliations with the Italian Association of Macromolecular Science and Technology (AIM), INSTM Consortium, and maintains collaborative ties with Université de Toulon where she previously conducted research on antifouling coatings.

Her research focuses on advanced polymeric materials with applications spanning sustainability, energy, and environmental protection. Key areas include:

• Self-assembling amphiphilic polymers for biomedical/drug delivery systems
• Eco-friendly marine antifouling coatings
• Ion-exchange membranes for green hydrogen production
• Transparent wood composites for sustainable construction

She utilizes controlled polymerization techniques (RAFT/ATRP/NMP) and material functionalization strategies.

Since 2025, she teaches courses on polymeric materials technology and macromolecular design. She actively mentors B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. students, including recent supervision of Dr. Francesca Niccolai's doctoral work on battery membranes. She leads the Functional Polymers Lab (FUNpolymer) and engages in public outreach to demonstrate polymer science applications.
